MuPiBox-NG 0.2.0-alpha.29 – Optional installation statistics and hardware compatibility
NEW: VOLUNTARY TECHNICAL STATISTICS
- The MuPiBox NG administrator can explicitly opt in under About MuPiBox to help improve hardware compatibility and count monthly active installations. Statistics are disabled by default; existing installations do not start reporting automatically.
- The report includes only a pseudonymous monthly device identifier and coarse technical data: NG version, Raspberry Pi model, OS/Debian version, display resolution, controller/webcam availability, configured audio output, audio hardware category, and hardware profile switches. It does NOT include playback/listening history, user identities, accounts, media files, Wi-Fi network names, Bluetooth addresses, Music Assistant player IDs, or behavioral usage data.
- Audio output now distinguishes the configured local soundcard (e.g. MuPiHAT with MAX98357A / I2S, HiFiBerry, USB, HDMI) from the currently selected playback route (local, Bluetooth or Music Assistant). Bluetooth playback no longer hides the configured soundcard.
- The existing hardware switches in Admin determine OnOff SHIM and MuPiHAT status. There is no separate statistics-only OnOff SHIM questionnaire or hardware toggle.
- A subtle, optional reminder appears at most once each calendar month in the *administrator interface* when statistics remain disabled. It never interrupts the child-facing touchscreen/player. The reminder can be dismissed or used to navigate to the opt-in control; it never enables collection by itself.
- The administrator can withdraw consent at any time. Reporting stops immediately and the box requests deletion of still-retained individual reports. Monthly aggregates are kept under the published retention policy.
- Technical statistics are currently supported for NG; the private statistics backend is structured for later Classic support, but Classic data collection is not enabled.
TESTING / OPERATIONS
- All Go tests, vet checks, frontend/game logic checks, localization validation, and signed ARM64 release packaging are part of the release verification.
- Verified on NG test box 85: configured MuPiHAT (MAX98357A/I2S) and a Bluetooth playback route are reported separately; OnOff SHIM off and MuPiHAT on match the existing Hardware settings.
- The optional telemetry client talks only to https://stat.mupibox.de after explicit consent. For details, consult the privacy link in Admin. Normal MuPiBox playback and existing settings are unaffected.
- This is an alpha release; back up your box before updating. Please report any unexpected startup, touchscreen, audio, or Admin behavior with the installed release and hardware profile.
