FIXED – Display rotation on Waveshare 5-inch / Raspberry Pi DSI panels
- Previously, the Qt Quick touchscreen UI queried its display orientation once on two local ports during startup. If the backend had not yet started, it permanently fell back to 0 degrees for that UI session, even if 180 degrees had already been saved.
- The touchscreen now retries the local orientation endpoint while the backend is starting. If the backend remains unavailable for 15 seconds, the UI becomes usable in fallback mode and continues retrying. Once the saved orientation is available, the same scene transformation is applied to visual content and Qt touch hit testing.
- A saved explicit 180-degree Qt scene rotation is also honored on native-landscape 800×480 DSI displays such as Waveshare 5-inch. This fix is already present in the integrated base from the previous development branch and is covered by an additional regression test for connected, disconnected and HDMI-attached cases.
- Neither the selected rotation nor display hardware settings are reset by this update. Changes to display orientation in Admin can still require a box reboot to become effective.
IMPROVED – Diagnostic distinction for unexpected UI exits
- An intentional UI restart triggered by a backend restart-generation change now logs MUPIBOX_UI_RESTART_REQUESTED with the old and new generation numbers.
- This enables community reports to distinguish an application-requested Qt exit from a genuine process crash or spontaneous shutdown.
ALSO INCLUDED
- The development branch's WebDAV dependency fix, which installs missing rclone and fuse3 automatically for supported configurations.
TEST STATUS / FOLLOW-UP
- Go regression tests, Qt QML syntax validation, UI lifecycle tests and the delayed-backend orientation recovery check have been performed in the development environment.
- Raspberry Pi 4 / Waveshare 5-inch real-hardware acceptance remains pending. Re-test 0 and 180 degrees across repeated starts and after opening Spotify.
- Spotify-related touchscreen exits are NOT declared fixed: the Alpha 15 diagnostic ZIP showed a clean Qt UI deactivation and automatic restart but did not identify its trigger. Please send a fresh diagnostic ZIP immediately after any reproduction, the exact local timestamp, what was tapped in Spotify, and ideally a short video.
- Back up your MuPiBox before updating. This is an alpha test release and not a final hardware-validated fix.
